Blog #29: The Mall Scene Concept for the Past Sequence

Hey everyone, Adrian here! As we continue brainstorming and refining our past sequences, we’ve come up with a new scene that we want to incorporate into the film. This moment will take place at the mall, adding a fun and relatable touch to the story while giving more depth to the dynamic between Adrian and Tati before they even start talking.

The Mall Scene Concept

The scene takes place before Adrian and Tati officially meet, a time when they both like each other but haven’t spoken yet. The two of them just happen to be at the mall at the same time, hanging out with their own friend groups, completely unaware that the other is there.

As they walk through the mall, they suddenly spot each other from a distance. That’s when the nervousness kicks in.

  • Tati’s POV: The moment she sees Adrian, she immediately pulls her friends into the nearest store and starts freaking out. She asks them, “How do I look?” or “Is my hair a mess?”, panicking over the fact that the guy she likes is right there. Her friends try to calm her down while hyping her up at the same time.
  • Adrian’s POV: Meanwhile, Adrian is dealing with the same kind of pressure, except from his guy friends. They urge him to make a move, teasing him about how this could be his chance. Of course, Adrian isn’t as smooth as they make it seem, and he starts overthinking the situation just as much as Tati.

Why This Scene Works

This scene is a great way to show the nervous excitement of young love—those awkward, heart-racing moments when you see your crush unexpectedly and don’t know what to do. It also helps emphasize the polar opposite personalities between Adrian and Tati before they eventually start talking, making their later connection even more meaningful.

What’s Next?

That’s as far as we’ve made it in brainstorming this scene, but we’re excited to develop it further. Of course, we can’t spoil everything, so not all details will be revealed before filming. Stay posted for more updates as we continue crafting the opening film!
