Hey everyone, Adrian here! As we continue refining our memory-based romance film opening, we’ve been thinking a lot about how we want to end it. Since this is just the beginning of a larger story, we want the final shot to feel complete while still leaving room for the story to develop beyond these two minutes.
How the Ending Will Play Out
After the series of flashbacks showing how our characters met and fell in love, the film will return to the present. The final memory sequence will end with Adrian and Tati leaning their heads together in the past, and in a match dissolve transition, the scene will fade back to the present where they are doing the exact same thing, but this time, watching the sunset.
The Final Camera Shot
To bring the film to a quiet, poetic close, we’re planning to use a tilt-up shot (or possibly a crane shot) to slowly move the camera up toward the sky, focusing on the sunset.
- A tilt-up shot will allow the camera to remain in place but shift the focus smoothly from the characters to the sunset.
- A crane shot could give a more dramatic effect, lifting slightly higher to reveal the vastness of the sky, making the moment feel even more emotional.
This shot is meant to symbolize the passage of time, reflection, and how love remains constant even as life moves forward. It’s a peaceful way to wrap up the film, giving the audience a moment to absorb everything before the screen fades to black.
Why This Ending Works
- Full Circle Moment: We start the film in the present, travel to the past, and end back in the present, showing how everything has come together.
- Emotional Impact: A soft, slow-moving shot will give the scene a reflective, bittersweet tone, enhancing the romance.
- Visual Storytelling: Instead of ending with dialogue or a sudden cut, this camera movement lets the moment breathe, making it feel more cinematic.
