Blog #23: We’ve Decided on the Memory-Based Romance!

Hey everyone, Adrian here! After a lot of brainstorming and discussions, we’ve officially decided on the concept for our 2-minute opening film—and we’re going with the memory-based romance! This idea stood out to us because it allows us to blend emotional storytelling with fun, relatable moments that capture the journey of a relationship.

Why We Chose the Memory-Based Story

One of the biggest reasons we went with this concept is because it lets us explore how relationships grow over time. The flashback sequences give us the chance to show the evolution of our characters—from awkward first meetings and funny mismatches to a deep connection that leads to where they are now.

We also loved the idea of incorporating contrasting personalities. The flashbacks will highlight how Tati’s character, dressed in classy beachwear dresses, and my character, rocking band T-shirts with a tomboy vibe, initially seemed like polar opposites. Over time, the audience will see how we grew closer and how even our styles blended together as a symbol of our connection.

The Storyline So Far

The film will start with Tati and me already happy in a relationship, walking on the beach and reminiscing. This sparks a series of flashbacks that show:

  • Us talking about each other to our friends before we even met.
  • Embarrassing and funny moments on our first date (possibly at a mall).
  • A montage of us slowly realizing that, despite our differences, we’re actually perfect for each other.

The mix of humor and heartfelt moments will hopefully make the audience smile, laugh, and connect with the story.

What’s Next?

Now that we’ve locked in the concept, the next step is refining the storyline and starting work on the script and storyboard. We’re also thinking about how to incorporate visuals, costumes, and props to bring this story to life. The inspiration from The Notebook will definitely play a role in how we approach the emotional depth of the film.
