Blog #42: Using “Sk8er Boi” in Our Film

Hey everyone, Adrian here! We’ve officially decided to incorporate “Sk8er Boi” by Avril Lavigne into Fading Into You! It’s not going to play throughout the film, but rather as a small but meaningful detail in the school scene.

How It Will Be Used

During the school lunch scene, Adrian will be sitting alone, reading a book, while Tati is at a picnic table with her friends. In the background, “Sk8er Boi” will be playing through Adrian’s earbuds—setting up his character’s laid-back, alternative vibe.

Then, when he glances at Tati and her friends, there’s a slight pause as he debates whether to make a move. At that moment, he takes out his phone and skips the song, cutting off the music entirely.

Why This Works

  • Subtle Character Detail – This moment adds a layer to Adrian’s personality, showing his casual taste in music and possibly hinting at his nervousness.
  • Sets the Mood – The song brings in that early 2000s teen movie energy, fitting the nostalgic feel we’re aiming for.

Breaks the Silence – Instead of going straight into the dialogue, it gives a quick transition moment before Adrian decides to interact with Tati’s group.

What’s Next?

We’re really excited about how this small music cue will enhance the scene. It’s a fun nod to our film’s inspirations while adding a more natural, realistic feel to Adrian’s character. Stay tuned for more filming updates!
