Hey everyone, Adrian here! Unfortunately, after weeks of emailing back and forth, we won’t be able to use “Sk8er Boi” by Avril Lavigne as planned.
What Happened?
After reaching out to the publishers, I finally got a response with a link to a licensing request form. It asked for details like:
- The due date for this portfolio
- Our budget for the film
- The song we wanted to include
- Where it would be published (which is just for Cambridge)
But the biggest issue? The publishing minimum quote was way out of our budget. Since this is a small student project, it wasn’t realistic for us to pay the licensing fee.
What’s Next?
Even though we’re disappointed, we’re already brainstorming new song ideas that still fit the vibe of the school scene. We might also consider using an instrumental or an original track instead. Either way, we’ll make it work!
