Blog #48: Thoughts About Scrapping a Scene

Hey everyone, Adrian here! As we get further into production for Fading Into You, we’ve hit a bit of a challenge—our official submission can’t be longer than 2 minutes and 10 seconds. That means we need to take a step back and decide what scenes are truly necessary to tell our story effectively.

One of the biggest discussions we’ve had is possibly cutting the scene at Sav’s house. While it helps build Tati’s perspective and adds more depth to how she talks about Adrian to her friends, we have to consider whether it’s crucial to the main storyline.

Why We Might Cut It

  • Time Constraints – We’re already pushing the limit, and every second matters in a short film.
  • Keeping the Flow Smooth – The school, mall, and beach scenes already do a great job at developing the relationship. Cutting this scene could help the pacing feel tighter.
  • Prioritizing Other Key Moments – Instead of squeezing everything in, we want to make sure our most impactful scenes have enough time to breathe.

What’s Next?

We haven’t made the final decision yet, but if we do cut it, we’ll make sure to adjust other scenes to still include Tati’s perspective naturally. We’re in the process of trimming down what we have so far to make sure we stay within the time limit.

Stay tuned for more updates—we’re getting closer to the final cut! Let us know what you think. Should we keep the scene or let it go?
