Blog #9: The Interview: The Edit – News Report in Progress

Hey everyone, Adrian here! We’ve started working on a new project called The Edit – News Report, and I’m excited to share what’s been going on so far. Let’s just say this first attempt has been a bit of a learning curve, but that’s part of the process!

Collaborators

For this project, I’m teaming up with the usual crew. Tatiana took on the role of interviewer, delivering questions with confidence, while I showed them the questions behind the scenes. Savanah worked the camera, making sure everything was filmed smoothly. We interviewed two students, Alina and Sarah, and while they gave great responses, things didn’t go as planned. You can check out the unpolished clips right below here!

The Challenges

After reviewing the two clips that we filmed, we realized the project was very unfinished and needed staff members so they can give more and better information. There were also issues with timing and having the proper materials to make it a decent interview. On top of that, we didn’t prepare as much as we should have, which left some parts looking messy and unpolished. Because of this, we decided to scrap everything and start fresh with better preparation next time, might even be tomorrow.

Media Learning Journey

This process has been a good reminder of how important preparation is. I’ve learned a lot about organizing content and managing time to edit the video, and I’ve also seen how crucial it is to get every detail right when putting together a news report, as we were literally missing an overview in the beginning of the video discussing what the topic of the interviews are going to be about. Mistakes like these might feel frustrating, but they’re a chance to grow and improve.

The Plan Moving Forward

We’re coming back tomorrow with a solid plan to fix what went wrong. We’ll rehearse, set up better transitions, find teachers and as well include a couple of students who can give proper advice, and make sure we have enough time to create a polished report. The goal is to highlight the importance of financial wellbeing while keeping the report smooth and engaging. With a fresh start and more preparation, we’re confident this project will turn out much better.

Final Thoughts

Even though our first attempt wasn’t perfect, it’s been a valuable learning experience. Mistakes happen, but they also give us a chance to improve. Stay tuned as we refine this project and work towards creating a well-prepared news report on financial wellbeing!
