Hey everyone, Adrian here! As we wrap up our The Edit – News Report project, I’ve been reflecting on how we could have made the interviews even better and some of the other ideas we had before settling on our final plan. While I’m proud of what we accomplished, there’s always room to grow, and I want to share some of those thoughts with you.
How We Could Have Improved
One thing we could have done better was planning and preparation. While the final video turned out well, having a bit more time to rehearse and polish everything would’ve helped the flow feel even smoother. We could’ve worked on making the interviews feel more natural, with follow-up questions to dive deeper into the interviewees’ responses. More variety in the interviewees and locations could have also added another layer of interest to the video.
Alternate Ideas We Considered
Before deciding on the final plan, our team brainstormed a couple of other approaches for the news report:
- Mental Wellbeing Interviews in a Gym
One idea was to focus on mental wellbeing and film in a gym, asking people how physical activity helps their mental health. The concept was strong, but we didn’t have the questions fully planned out since it was still in the brainstorming stage. It also felt more logistically challenging to approach random gym-goers, so we decided not to move forward with it. - Financial Wellbeing with a Different Plot
Another idea was to stick with financial wellbeing but with a different twist. I imagined walking down a street in a suit with prop money scattered everywhere, going up to random people and asking them about financial wellbeing. While it sounded fun and dynamic, it didn’t feel as practical. It would have been harder to coordinate and might not have captured the same focused, professional tone we wanted for the final video.
Why We Chose the Final Plan
We ultimately chose the financial wellbeing interview format because it felt the most structured and achievable. It allowed us to plan ahead, assign clear roles, and create a polished video that was both informative and entertaining. The addition of props like the rack of $100 bills and my creepy sunglasses added some humor while keeping the focus on the topic.
Final Thoughts
This project was a great learning experience, and while there’s always room for improvement, I’m proud of what we created as a team. Exploring different ideas and narrowing down our options helped us see what worked best. Who knows—maybe some of our alternate ideas will inspire future projects! Thanks for following along with us, and stay tuned for whatever we come up with next!
