Blog #31: New Film Inspiration – 10 Things I Hate About You

Hey everyone, Adrian here! As we work on our romance film opening, we’ve been looking at different movies for inspiration, and one that really stood out is 10 Things I Hate About You. It has the perfect mix of romance, humor, and character growth, which is exactly what we want to capture in our project.

What We’re Taking from It

  • Opposites-Attract Dynamic – In the flashbacks, Adrian and Tati will seem like complete opposites before eventually growing closer, similar to Kat and Patrick.
  • Natural Dialogue – The film’s conversations feel real and engaging, and we want our dialogue to have the same authentic feel.
  • Memorable Flashbacks – Since our film is memory-based, we want each flashback to feel important without slowing down the story.
  • Casual, Yet Meaningful Aesthetic – The mix of school settings, outdoor hangouts, and real interactions makes the romance feel natural, something we’re aiming for in our mall, school, and beach scenes.

How This Helps Our Film

Watching 10 Things I Hate About You has helped us understand how to make the romance feel fun, relatable, and natural. It’s also given us ideas on how to balance humor with heartfelt moments while keeping the pacing smooth.

We’re keeping all of this in mind as we work on the script and plan our shots. Stay tuned for more updates!
