Blog #65: Reflecting on Filming – The Journey So Far

Hey everyone, Adrian here! As we’re wrapping up the filming process, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on everything we’ve been through to get to this point. It’s been a wild ride full of changes, reschedules, and creative decisions that shaped the final product. The featured image is a before and after on the first ever scene that was pre scripted, and then later changed during production. Anyways, that was just one thing, let’s break the other things down.

Schedule Adjustments and Crew Challenges

One of the biggest challenges throughout this project was definitely scheduling. With a group as big as ours and with everyone juggling school, work, and personal commitments, it was almost impossible to lock in solid dates at times.

We had quite a few scenes planned that had to be postponed or shifted around because some of our crew members couldn’t make it. For example:

  • The after-school scene was one of the most debated scenes, where we constantly discussed refilming it and ended up ultimately scrapping it due to time constraints and crew availability.
  • The Sav’s house scene was initially debated on being scrapped but was ultimately kept because we felt it added depth to Tati’s perspective. It was a last-minute decision that turned out to be worth it.
  • During the beach/marine scene, we had a change in location after finding out the private beach we planned to film at was closed due to alligators. Luckily, Deering Point came through as the final spot.

Script and Storyline Adjustments

Another major aspect of this production was the constant script adjustments. As we filmed more scenes, we kept realizing how we could make things flow better, appear more natural, or just feel more realistic. Some of the key changes included:

  • The Mall Scene: Initially, the mall scene had Tati wearing a pink dress, which was supposed to tie into the past beach scene as a form of foreshadowing. However, we changed it to a more casual shirt that matched the store vibe, and honestly, it made way more sense.
  • The Beach Scene: Originally, Adrian and Tati were supposed to arrive by bike, but due to the change of location to Deering Point, we decided to make them arrive by golf cart instead. This also led to moving the bike arrival idea to a different part of the past scene, keeping the visual element intact.
  • Final Scene: We initially planned for the ending scene to be a sunset shot, but the wind noise was so intense that we knew we’d have to rely on voiceovers for cleaner audio.

Props and Costume Adjustments

We also had to make quite a few changes when it came to props and costumes:

  • Tati’s Glasses: We originally planned for Tati to wear clear glasses in the present scenes, but we couldn’t find her old clear glasses from months ago, so we decided to keep her leopard-print glasses throughout.
  • The Dress Swap: We replaced the pink dress idea with a casual shirt to make the scene look more grounded. Plus, it tied in nicely with the first date outfit, which felt more authentic.

Scenes We Had to Scrap

We also made some tough decisions when it came to scrapping scenes entirely:

  • The School Scene: After weeks of debating and planning, we ultimately scrapped this scene to avoid going over the time limit and to ensure that we had enough time for editing and voiceovers.
  • Script Edits: As we continued filming, we realized that some scenes didn’t make sense with the overall flow, leading to quite a few script revisions along the way.

Looking Back

All these changes and adjustments might sound overwhelming, but honestly, it was all part of the creative process. Sometimes you just have to adapt and improvise to make things work. We’ve come a long way since our initial ideas, and seeing how everything is shaping up now makes all the struggles feel worth it.

What’s Next?

Now that filming is complete, it’s time to edit the footage, add in the voiceovers, and start working on the CCR. We’re almost there! Also, keep an eye out for a sneak peek of the new logo I’ve been working on for the blog site—something I’m super proud of.

Thanks for sticking with us through this journey. Stay tuned for more updates!
